Do we have to use a facial toner?

I get asked this question quite a bit and I also hear people saying that they don't notice anything beneficial if they use toner or if they don't.

Skincare has come a long long way in the last 20 years. Toners years ago were filled with alcohol and astringents like witch hazel. These can be irritable to the skin. Toners with alcohol are said to be a great addition to your skincare regime if you have oily skin. If you have dry or mature skin then this is probably drying your skin even further.

I feel that if you get the correct toner for your skin type, then yes this can be a really beneficial to your skin.

When we cleanse our faces we are removing the dirt and oils on our skin. Our pores are open and can be prone to dirt and oil getting back in there and causing breakouts. Using a toner and help tighten those pores down, making it harder for the pores to get clogged by dirt.

If you have dry or mature skin then look for toners that are alcohol free. Toners that help bring moisture back to the skin after cleansing strips them. these toners should contain revitalising ingredients.

If you have oily skin then look for something like witch hazel and or salicylic acid to help reduce the production of oil and help combat acne.

If you have normal skin then I would opt for a toner similar to that of people with dry skin.

All in all I really do feel that toning the skin, after it is cleansed helps your skin. It can really help revitalise the skin, help tighten pores and give you that glowing complexion you long for.

My fav toner at the minute is the Pixi Glow tonic. I did a post on it here.
